Rhydycar West Demonstrates Strong Commitment to Local Business Community in Merthyr Tydfil

Rhydycar West, a world-class sport and leisure resort poised to transform South Wales, reinforced its commitment to developing strong business relations and partnerships within Merthyr Tydfil and the surrounding region. This commitment is part of Rhydycar West’s ongoing efforts to support and enhance the local economic landscape.

Rhydycar West has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a number of independent town centre businesses, further demonstrating its pledge to support and enhance the local business environment as an integral part of its planning application.

A Commitment to Local Growth and Collaboration

Key commitments outlined in the agreement include:

  • The introduction of a free shuttle bus service, ensuring seamless connectivity between the resort and the town centre, facilitating visitor flow and local engagement.
  • Active promotion of local businesses within the resort, highlighting the rich variety of independent ventures in Merthyr Tydfil.
  • Joint marketing programs and supplier arrangements, focusing on the potential synergies between the resort and town centre businesses.

Building Future Opportunities and Partnerships

Rhydycar West is actively pursuing collaborative relationships with businesses in Merthyr Tydfil and the surrounding area to create mutually beneficial opportunities and partnerships. This initiative solidifies the resort’s role as a catalyst for regional economic growth and development.

In association with Merthyr Tydfil Enterprise Centre (MTEC), Rhydycar West has already seen success with community engagements, such as the well-received drop-in session at Scorccini's Pizzeria in the town centre.

Another highlight was a business breakfast hosted at The Scala in Decemebr, which saw enthusiastic participation from local businesses and organisations in the community.

A Unified Vision for Growth

Rhydycar West will welcome a very significant number of visitor per annum so the opportunities for businesses in the area are substantial. These visitor numbers present a new audience for local enterprises to caplitalise on, tapping into the increased footfall and diverse consumer needs that will need to be satisfied.

Paul Thomas, owner of the new athletics retailer startup Sole Mate in Merthyr Tydfil, expressed his excitement: "What an opportunity? Not only for us businesses to capitalise on the visitors but also for local athletes to have such a world-class facility on our doorstep. Fingers crossed that the planning goes ahead, and this once-in-a-lifetime proposal becomes a reality for our town."

Lyn Williams, Communications Manager at Rhydycar West and a local business owner, shared the sentiment: “The feedback from local businesses has been overwhelmingly positive. Sustaining a business in the town centre is challenging in the current climate, so the opportunity to tap into potentially hundreds of thousands of visitors each year is incredibly exciting. The success of Bike Park Wales has given us just a glimpse of what Rhydycar West could bring.”
